With a background in training and HR I became interested in a holistic approach to helping colleagues in the workplace and in the many ways that people help themselves to support their health and general well being. Having experienced a variety of complementary therapies myself I began my professional training in clinical reflexology to develop my interest further and begin another journey in my life.
I trained with Lotus Holistic Academy an affiliated school of Professional Reflexology and gained a Reflexology Mastership in Clinical Reflexology at Level 5, the highest level of Reflexology training in the UK. Along with practical foot reflexology I have specialist training on reflexology for pregnancy and maternity, cancer and palliative care, hand reflexology and Precision Reflexology.
I am a full member of Professional Reflexology and the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council whose purpose is to enhance public safety, by providing access to a list of complementary therapists that have been assessed as meeting national standards of safe and competent practice.

Services & Treatments

Reflexology is one of the most powerful complementary therapies in the UK. Reflexology is based on the principle that certain points on the feet and hands correspond to specific parts of the body. Therefore, applying pressure to these reflex points brings balance and equilibrium to the body and may alleviate and improve symptoms such as everyday stress and tension.

What can it help?

Reflexology can be used simply for relaxation as well as to maintain good health. The treatment is relaxing and can help reduce feelings of stress and anxiety. It is suitable for people of all ages and for each person the effects of the therapy are unique. Try regular reflexology sessions for:

high blood pressure
constipation and IBS
sleep disorders
pain relief
asthma and allergies
headaches and migraines
sinus problems
menstrual irregularities
poor circulation
pregnancy (and post-natal)
post-operative recovery
skin problems

What happens during a treatment?

During the first session the reflexologist will take a history of your condition and your general health, and explain a little about reflexology therapy. Reflexology is non-invasive but you will be required to remove your footwear and socks if you are having foot reflexology. Sessions are carried out in a comfortable reclining chair or therapy bed. The therapist will make a visual and tactile examination of your feet before beginning the precise reflexology therapy. Appropriate pressure for the clients comfort will be used.

How many sessions will I need?

This depends upon the nature of the problem as well as each individual. As each treatment plan is individually tailored a clearer picture regarding your problem and approximately how many sessions you may need will be obtained following the initial detailed assessment.

How will I feel?

You may feel warmth and experience a tingling sensation in your feet and the rest of your body during your treatment. You may also feel relaxed and drowsy and it’s perfectly normal for clients to fall asleep during their therapy sessions.

Many clients feel calm and relaxed with an immediate improvement in their symptoms. Some patients feel lethargic and nauseous or even tearful but don’t worry these are short term symptoms.

I am happy to answer any questions you may have, so to have a chat about how reflexology can help you, or to book an appointment, please contact me on 07932 088168 or email karen@balanceholistic.co.uk

Facial Reflexology

Book yourself in now, for a Facial Reflexology treatment to reduce stress for health and well being. The unique benefit of Facial Reflexology is that not only does it aim to help you improve your health and well-being, it also can help you to look better, younger and have a healthy glow on the outside.

The face provides a beautiful and precise tool to read what is going on within the body. Bergman Method Facial Reflexology is built on a combination of Native American techniques and Asian body maps that chart the reflex points on the face, combined with Zone Theory. Facial Reflexology can be a wonderful therapy to help identify reflexes out of balance and to help improve health and well-being.

As an added benefit to the treatment session, the face will feel and look smoother and more toned as circulation is increased and muscle tension released. Some clients call it their ‘mini facelift’ by helping to improve skin tone and promote lymphatic drainage. Experience the benefits of the Zone Face Lift Facial Elixir used in the treatment, winner of the 2018 Beauty Shortlist Awards – Best Facial Oil.

Reflexology Lymph Drainage

I am excited to be able to offer RLD, an award winning reflexology technique which focuses on stimulating the lymphatic reflexes on the feet. The aim is to cause an effect on the lymphatic system in the body similar to that achieved by Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD). It is a unique sequence that has been researched and developed by Sally Kay BSc (Hons), whilst working in Cancer Care. The results appear to support the theory of reflexology.

Lymphatic drainage massage (MLD) is used to treat conditions other than lymphoedema, and RLD may be used similarly. Manual lymphatic drainage massage can improve the ability of the body’s lymphatic system to cleanse from the inside out as part of a detox programme. It can stimulate and increase the rate or removal of waste products, toxins and water retention (that can often occur during pregnancy, after surgery or long flights). It can prevent cellulite caused by built up toxins in the lymphatic system and can improve the conditions of auto-immune disease.

Sports & Maintenance Massage

A sports and maintenance massage is ideal for anyone with musculoskeletal pain or dysfunction. It can help alleviate the stress and tension which builds up in the body’s soft tissues caused by any of life’s day to day stresses.

This treatment is not just for the sports person: anyone can benefit from sports massage, including people in physically demanding jobs. Occupational, stress and poor posture may produce many similar characteristics to sports injuries.

Where minor injuries and lesions occur, due to overexertion and/or overuse, massage can break them down quickly and effectively. Above all, it can help prevent those niggling injuries that so often get in the way of performance and achievement, whether an ardent keep-fitter or just for day to day stresses and strains.

By reviewing our clients holistically, we can use sports massage to complement our reflexology sessions to develop a unique specific treatment for you.
